Common Core and the School Library

Welcome to the 21st century!  The School library media specialist is an essential key player in a strong implementation of the Common Core Standards.  The school library media specialist is the true "keeper of knowledge" for the school and can play an essential role with overseeing interdisciplinary learning in the school.  It is absolutely imperative that teachers and administrators lean on their school library media specialists when designing lessons and gathering information for lessons that reflect college and career readiness standards.  Unfortunately, in many schools the knowledge and expertise that the school library media specialist possesses is underutilized and often these are the first positions that are cut.  If districts want to be successful with Common Core implementation then the school library should be seen as sacred ground in the building.
